Journal Haber, M.S. 1977 6.0 km S., 17.0 km E Valle de la Trinidad, 910m, Baja California Mexico. 5 July 0515 arose and checked Sherman traps: 12 Dipodomys agilis 2 Dipodomys merriami 1/15 P. maniculatus Success: 15/20 We released all animals as we had the samples we needed already. We had decided last night to leave the Hubble traps out all night to measure the nocturnal activity of the gophers. We each had about 14 sets out and only had 2 animals this morning -- i.e. not much nocturnal activity. We continued our effort throughout the morning to capture at least 20 gophers for a proper electrophoresis sample. By 0900 we had 21 gophers, and after preparing these specimens we headed west. The animals of this community formed what seemed to be a rather unusual association: 2 species of ground squirrel -- similar in size and general ecology; 2 species of kangaroo rats -- also rather similar in size and general ecology and 2 species of cricetine rodents (Onychomys and Peromyscus) roughly similar in size and ecology. Apparently there are no pocket mice here. (?)
