Journal Hafner, M.S. 1977 6 mi. N, 31 mi. W Hiko, 4800 ft. Lincoln Co., Nevada. 24 March 0430 arose to prepare to depart for Nevada. Rainy, cold and windy in Richmond. 0520 depart Richmond and drive via I-80 through Sacramento and over Donner Summit. Much snow falling above ~3500 ft. Rain continued across central valley. 0915 arrive in Reno, get a bite to eat and head via I-80 and alternate 95? through Fallon then South to Hawthorn. Weather is cloudy now, but only scattered light showers. [Darcey, Emily, Barron, and I are in our van and Barry lotz is following in his pick-up. The idea of this trip is to get our 3rd annual March sample of Microdiplops from the contact zone] at 1430 arrive in Tonopah just in time to get nabbed in the God-damned "speed trap" -- $12 each for Barry and I. 1500 heavy snow and dense clouds as we head NE on Hwy 6 from Tonopah. Gassed-up in Warm Springs with heavy snow falling - [very little remains on ground, however]. The fellows at the gas station said that they'd been without rain for months! Aren't we lucky?
