0700 arose and drove to Hwy 17. We referred to Reichman and Baker (1972) for gopher localities - we decided that the best area for trapping was north of "zone of contact" that R and B were working on. We drove about 2 miles past their contact zone and set out ca. 15 sets apiece on the slopes near Limpia creek (see map) to the immediate E of Hwy 17. We processed blood and tissue alongside the road and by 1400 had 22 Thomomys and 1 Pappogeomys John caught the Pappogeomys ca. 1/4 mi from the creek (on the W side). Very hot afternoon - we departed this locality (1500) after washing-up in the creek and drove north to Balmohea. We refueled in Balmohea.
