Journal Hafner, U.S. 1976 Ruidoso, Lincoln Co., 6700 ft., New Mexico. 20 August (cont) for breakfast. 0930 checked into the "Arrowhead" Motel just south of town on Hwy 70. (#14.56). Room was not quite ready so, we drove back to recheck traps - no captures. 1030 - began to set up karyotyping lab. Have 28 animals to process (19 from Nogal Canyon and 9 from the "Bar" locality near here. Ca. 1115 inject first group (6) of animals. Worked throughout the afternoon. 1700 drove to check traps - no captures. Returned to motel room and relaxed for the evening. Karyotyped 28 animals + 4 embryos = 32 animals. Ruidoso, Lincoln Co., 6700 ft., New Mexico. 21 August 0730 awoke and drove to check traps - no captures. Returned to motel and put-up the 28 animals. 1500 drove to check traps - again no captures, but most holes were plugged. Returned to motel and stained slides for examination. As resolution again proved to be quite difficult, we decided to leave the karyological examinations for back at MVZ and spend out time taking detailed ecological measures. 1930 called home - all's well - heard Emily laugh on the phone. She's grown quite a bit in the month I've been gone.
