Journal Hafner, M.S. 1976 Capitan Mtus., Lincoln Co., New Mexico. 15 August (cont) We set the pinning boards out in the sun to allow the skins to dry somewhat. 1300 we were quite desperate to capture some ruidosae from the Capitan Mtus. --- we attempted to dig-out an animal - needless to say, we failed - great exercise in 95° weather. 1400 drove into Capitán. had lunch and headed for Carrizozo to karyotype the 6 specimens we now have. (3 from Ruidoso area + 3 from Capitan Mtus. -- exact locality: 7.2 mi. N, 6.7 mi. E Capitán, 6900 ft.) The sky was becoming quite cloudy and we debated as to whether we should hole-up or not - (rainy weather being great for trapping) - we decided to karyotype and head for Albuquerque mañana. We need several things that Dave has offered to supply. 1600 - Injected the 6 gophers - karyotyped and put them up. John called Dave to make arrangements for tomorrow -- we're very tired. The storm came to nothing -- Mere afternoon sprinkles in the mountains. We're still waiting for proper rain.
