Journal Hafner, M.S. 1976 Capitan Mtus., Lincoln Co., New Mexico. 14 August (cont) We drove back to the first locality and camped for the night. Saw several bats ~ 2000 - one very large, may have been a lasiurus. Capitan Mtus., Lincoln Co., New Mexico. 15 August 0730 awoke and checked traps near camp. - No captures. - 2 of the holes were plugged. We drove to the 2nd locality: 3 Thomomys bottae No. (1) was captured in a small meadow surrounded by Juniperus spp. - light soil color - (No. (2) also). No. (3) was captured in a very small clearing ca. 0.3 mi. from the road fork. - the clearing contained some pines and a few Juniperus spp. - Darker soil color. As this habitat contained a mixture of Pinus and Juniperus we were hoping to have a contact zone between T.b. ochrosus and ruidosae. 1000 drove back to the 1st locality - no captures. We waited until 1300 for results. I climbed the pinnacles to the west - beautiful view
