0030 Strong rains fell - the tent fared well.
0730 awoke to bright morning. Checked
Nogal lake sets:
4 Gophers (Thomomys)
0830 Pulled Nogal Lake traps. Noted adult
Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo) upon return to camp
perched on top of a tall Juniper. The hawk
had an unusually pale breast.
0900 Checked Nogal Canyon traps after having
breakfast in Capitan. Captured 1 more
Gopher; making a total of 2 gophers
for this locality:
4.0 mi. S, 3.2 mi. W Nogal, 7800 ft.
2 Thomomys bottae
We drove approximately 2 mi. north on the
dirt & road (back towards Nogal) and set
7 sets (= 13 traps) near where the road
crosses the creek:
