to the Pattons when they passed through Albuquerque. Checked localities Northeast of Ruidoso (see map) then turned NW on Hwy 214. Drove via dirt road to near summit on Hwy 224 and set 3 live sets at entrance to Ft. Stanton Marine Reservation.
Returned to this locality later and captured 1 gopher:
5.5 mi. S, 4.5 mi. E Capitan, Lincoln Co.

Camped off Hwy 380 between Lincoln and Capitan near Rio Salado. Slept outside - nice night: Full moon.
9 August
Capitan, 6400 ft., Lincoln Co., New Mexico.
0800 Awoke, checked all traps. Drove via Hwy 214 to the localities NE of Ruidoso (on Hwy 70) - results:
5.7 mi. N, 15 mi. E Ruidoso

2.4 mi. N, 9 mi. E Ruidoso

We now have 8 live gophers for karyotyping.
1200 Drove via Hwy 224 and 380 to Capitan where we checked into a model ($15.60).
1300 injected animals with Colchicine.
1700 finished lab work and began to look at slides.
