Hafner, M.S
1976.
11 July (cont)
11.1 mi. N. Mojave (by Hwy 14), Kern Co., California
approximately 0.4 mi., I then turned S on
a dirt road and drove about 0.3 mi.. I
parked beneath a lone Yucca brevifolia
and set 193 traps in 4 directions from
this tree. Mixed Larrea - Atriplex community
with a few scattered Yucca trees. Many
areas of fine wind-blown sand.
2000 returned to Mojave. We ate dinner
at Reno's Cafe and retired ~ 2200.
12 July
11.1 mi. N. Mojave (by Hwy 14), Kern Co., California
0600 arose. Very windy still. Checked traps
with following results:
9 D. merriami
1 P. longimembris
1 A. leucurus (1 eye permanently
closed).
Success: 11/193 = 5%
The strong wind had blown over many of
the aluminum traps. Others were set off
by blowing dust. Poor success due to combination
of wind and full moon.
0800 return to Mojave. Packed-up and departed
0930 for home. Pleasant return trip - not
too hot in the Central Valley (~90°F).
1530 - arrived Richmond.
