Journal Hafner, Ms. 1976 Carrizo Plain, San Luis Obispo Co., 2000 ft., California 16 April actual lake-bed on the extreme SW corner of the (cont) lake. We drove about 7 mi. further south on the road then turned east and drove (off the road) across an area of overgrazed land until we encountered apparent native vegetation near the floor of the valley (=0.7 mi. E of the road). (We headed east exactly where the road is crossed by a fence with a cattle-guard). We set 60 traps in this habitat (to be described later) and then returned to the main road. We continued about 7 mi. further S on the main road until we encountered a sandy wash just to the E of the road. I noted much rodent activity and decided to make the 5th set of 60 traps here. We camped about 0.5 mi. W of this locality (see 17 April) in the low hills of the Caliente Range. About 1700 the wind began to die. We played pipes shortly and retired early - calm night - clear. ~40-45° F. low. Carrizo Plain, San Luis Obispo Co., California, 2000 ft. 17 April We arose and checked traps. Very nice, (cont) clear, brisk morning. Results: (over)
