journal Hwyner, M.S. 1976 6 mi. N., 31 mi. W Hiko, Lincoln Co., 4800 ft., Nevada. March (exit) E on I-80 then SE on Alt. 95 to Fallon, Nevada. Turned S on 95, passed Walker Lake, via Hawthorne to Tonopah. Called home in Hawthorne (all OK). Very windy and dusty. Partly cloudy. Continued E from Tonopah on Hwy 6 to Warmsprings - gassed-up then headed SE to Sand Springs (= Penozer) Valley. (see locality above), 1430 met Dave and Diane Hafner who had just arrived from an unsuccessful night's trapping in Utah. (didn't catch any Micro's). (Sky clear now; strong wind from SW; ~60°F). Since we wanted stomach contents for analysis, we set out snap traps this night only; We set out 400 traps in 4 lines emanating from the "old line #1" (see 25 March 1975). N dry lake -- = snap trap lines Hwy 25 ---.old trap line #1 dirt road 1700 set up camp in rocks just N. of Hwy 25 or Queen City Summit. (5966'). We set out 4 gopher sets on the summit. Dave and A put-up animals (1st outside and later in the tent) while Diane drove into Ash Springs (= 120 mi. round trip) for unleaded gas for their truck. 2130 ate dinner, talked and crashed. Cold, Clear, breezy night. Low temperature approximately 24° F.
