Turned north on road to Frenchman Lake and drove
1.5 mi. to a locality of loose, fine, wind-blown sand
to the immediate E of the road. Set 70 live traps in
mixed Artemisia tridentata and Chrysothamnus. (Artemisia
approx. 1.3 M tall = fairly dense vegetation). Much evidence
of Heteromyid activity. Barron did it then went further
up the road toward Frenchman Lake - I had planned
to camp in the wooded area about 6 mi N of Chilcot.
We walked around for awhile in the conifer forest, then
drove back to Hwy 70 and turned West toward Vinton.
1600-1700 hunted in the rocky slopes NE of the Vinton
Cemetery (for Sylvilagus) - got none - saw 2). 1530 returned
to camp on a side road about 1 mi. N. Chilcot.
1900 - cold, windy evening. clear. Slept out.
