Drove back to 99 and Highway headed S toward Bakersfield. Turned E on Hwy 46 then S on 65. Set 50 traps in dry wash Hwy just about 1 mi. N of Poso Creek. Habitat was mainly weed-tall grasses with sparse thornbushes (tumbleweeds). Much squirrel activity (Spermophilus) Continued S on 65 then through Oilvale to a point 4 miles east, (just south of the Kern River) Set 50 traps on sloping hillside adjacent to oil field. Little annual vegetation, much evidence of wash; Very dense Atriplex polycarpa. A continued on the road toward the Kern River State park, drove through the park, then headed south on Comanche Road. I then turned E on Edison Hwy and drove further E on Caliente Road. The area of natural habitat at the bottoms of Caliente
