Concord, Contra Costa Co., 400 ft. California
29 December 1300 Ken Ramay and I arrived at the site near
Concord - we dug till about 3 - I took Ken
to school (wrestling practice). I returned. Soon,
Thereafter, I found a large fragment of Beaver
(Castor) dentary with 2 molars. Later I found
a total of 3 arrowheads - 1 in perfect condition.
I also found an awl-like instrument + an
un-identifiable fragment of a tool made of ivory,
and a piece of triangular shaped jewelry
made of abalone or similar shell.
actual size
and approximate
shape of points
found.
I noted a Belted-Kingfisher in a nearby tree
and watched it dive after prey into a nearby
pond. I picked-up several more pieces of elk
bone - many bird limb bones, a dentary
of a Spennophiles (probably beechyi) and
many fish bones. The pile of dirt was also
laden with fragments of mussel shells.
