Journal Hefner, ms. 1975 Hastings Natural History Reservation, 14 mi. SE Carmel Valley, Monterey Co., 1700 ft., California 22 November (Crit) we noted a bat flying nearby. The bat was caught momentarily in the net and JLP was in the water after it when it suddenly go loose. JLP's feet were soaked and the temp was now about 40-50°F, (We heard many Coyote calls as we set up the nets). Soon thereafter, we caught: 1 lasiurus cinereus 1 Myotis californicus No more bats were captured during the night. 2200 I checked my squirrel traps, no captures. Bill Glanz gave a presentation of some of his thesis work in Chile and S. California L. Baptista's group came over to listen. 2300 - went to sleep - very cold night ~ 25-30°F Hastings Natural History Reservation, 14 mi. SE of Carmel Valley, Monterey Co., 1700 ft., California. 3 November 0700 arose and checked Oak-woodland Calhoun trap line - no captures - noted several deer in oak forest SW of Davis' house. Checked and brought in squirrel traps. I saw much Spengophylus bocedzi activity, but no captures. 1230 - Began clean-up. 1400 departed Reservation and returned via Salinas and San Jose to MUE.
