Journal Hajjar, m.s. 1975 Hastings Natural History Reservation, 14 mi. SE Carmel Valley, Monterey Co., 1700 ft., California hillside. These Calhm traps have been set twice a year for 7 years now, and results are tabulated and specimens kept here at the reservation (Reproductive info. is taken, of course). I set 24 Sherman traps in the chaparral on the hillside directly N. of the lab... I noted very little activity - occasional Peromyscus and/or Perognathus signs (no Dipodomys). Returned 1600 and set 20 Shermans near small creek (dried up the next day) behind main barn. 1630 set 6 gopher traps in meadow N of the lab. 1800, ate very nice dinner then walked with Bill Slaney and JLP to check live gopher traps in Long Meadow. Caught 1 Thomomys bottae. 2100 checked my chaparral set North of camp. (Captured: 1 Perognathus californicus 1 Peromyscus truei 1 P. maniculatus) Reset traps and returned to the camp. Played Ping-pong with JLP - 3 games with close scores - he won 2 out of 3. 2300 - crashed - very cold night (~30°F) full moon rose 2030.
