Journal Haynes, m.s. 1475 1.1 mi. E. of Vinton, Plumas Co., 5000 ft. California 18 October [cont] of heteromyzid activity in the fine, windblown sand. The rocky butte was full of woodrat (Neotoma) evidence, probably N. cinerea and/or N. lepida. 1800 finished setting traps and returned to Sagehen. Checked Tomahawk trap - no luck. 2130 - 3 guys and I departed camp to return to the Vinton sight. Noted several deer (O. hemionus) adjacent to road just S of Sierraville. Camped about 1.9 mi. N of Chilcot in desert scrub habitat. Cold night - (25-30°F) much frost on sleeping bags. Full moon. Clear. 19 October 1.1 mi. E. of Vinton, Plumas Co., 5000 ft. California 0700 arose and checked traps: 1 Peromyscus maniculatus (released) Peromyscus captured in rocks of butte. Other captures included: Perognathus parvus, D. adii, D. peninsularis, N. cinerea and M. megacephalus The Microdiplodops (a) were especially interesting, being very late in the season. I was given a D. peninsularis to put up - this also being an odd capture this far north and west. The moonlight apparently
