on the road through Sutcliffe to a point approximately 5 mi. W. of Nixon. This area was at the immediate South tip of the lake about 0.5 mi. from shore. (Habitat to be described below). We set 30 traps + 2 live gopher traps.
We proceeded through Nixon to a locality 8.6 mi. N. Nixon (8.6 mi. by road (Hwy 34)) and set 40 traps in the sand dunes to the East of the highway. J.C. Hapner, D.J. Hapner and I had set at this exact locality in March of this year. We had captured only 1 microdiploids at that time (100 traps). We then proceeded further north on Hwy 34 to a point 12.7 mi. (by road) N. of Nixon where we turned off on a dirt road and headed toward Winnemucca Dry lake. We camped about 0.3 mi. (west) from the barren lake bed and set out 40 traps. The night was very still and not too cold ~40° F. We arose at 0600 the next day.
