12.7 mi. N. Nixon, Washoe Co. Nevada.
3 September 0800 Ken Ramsey and J (and dog "Baron")
left Pleasant Hill, California - drove via Sacramento,
Truckee and Reno to Pyramid Lake, Nevada. When
day, calm. Drove on the west shore of Pyramid
Lake through Sutcliffe to a point 13.6 mi. N.
Sutcliffe. We could find no town of Pyramid, only
a ranch on a small stream about 11 mi. N.
Sutcliffe. We set 60 traps in the sandy soil
on a small plain to the right (E) of the road.
This area had originally been under water; the
present shoreline was approximately 0.5 mi. away.
(Habitat to be described later). The ground
was covered with millions of tiny sea shells, none
larger than approximately 6 mm. We noted
several Zebra-tailed lizards and one specimen
of Cnemidophorus. We drove south on the
same road past the ranch to a point 9.4 mi.
N. Sutcliffe where we stopped and set 40 traps
again to the east of the road. This area was
also once under water and was now loose sand.
This and the above locality were (and are)
being grazed by cattle. An Indian in an
official trucka stopped to see if we were in
trouble. We asked if he knew of a town
called Pyramid. He didn't. We continued south
