As we crossed a small gully near the top of the
hills, a large Bobcat (Lynx rufus) fled from
within the canyon (gully) to the higher hills
to the south of us. A very light-colored cat,
but quite large. A golden eagle (Aquila) ♂
flew overhead as we entered the study area.
Also noted several ground squirrels (Spermophilus
beechii) in the rocks and on the barren
hillsides of the canyons. I shot 15 Uta
stansburiana in the rocks (and around the
rocks) of the study site. These animals were
tagged and saved for later stomach contents
analysis, etc.. 1730 left study area. Noted ♀ sparrow
hawk (Falco) on the rocks to the NE of us as
we left the study area. On the following page
is a rough map of the study area. 1900 arrived
