26 April (cont.)
Various locales through Walker Pass, Kern Co., California.
1700 - Arrived in Freeman Canyon (Walker Pass) and set out 100 live traps approx. 3/4 mi. from the Summit.
This locality had thick clumps of Joshua Trees (Yucca), and a species of Atriplex (spinosa?) was the dominant shrub.
There were a few Chrysothamnus bushes with very-few larvae. Fine sand to sandy gravel. Dane noted a large Buteo (Red-tail or Rough-legged?) nearby.
We drove to Walker Pass summit (5240') where we set 100 traps .15 mi. E. of Summit. This locale' was on a sloping hillside S. of the highway. Few Pinon Pines, mostly Artemisia tridentata. Fine to coarse sand.
1800 - Drove to a point ~ 1.1 mi. by road from the summit (E. of summit) where we drove off the road to the South and set 60 traps in a predominantly Artemisia tridentata - Atriplex community. There were a few Chrysothamnus, few Fine to coarse sand. Clumps of Yucca brevifolia surrounded the field in which we set our traps.
Very windy evening. Cold. Full moon rose ~ 2100.
