Journal Nafner, M.S. 1975 2.6 mi. S., 6.3 mi. W Randsburg, Kern Co., 2900 ft. California 19 April 1400 - Dacey, Baron and I left Los Angeles and arrived this locality ~ 1730 - We almost got stuck in wet sand on the dirt road heading S. from the Barlock area. Found 2 Tortoises (Gopherus), both sub.ad. size. [I brought these back to the lab for urine analysis by S. Chaplin.] Tortoises were about .25 mi. apart, by dirt road ~ 2 mi. S of Barlock highway. (very near edge of Koehn Dry Lake). 1730 - We set out ~160 traps in 4 directions from camp. Found an adult Tortoise near camp. Measurements of Tortoises as follows: Dorsal A=125 B=130 C=295 A=94 B=100 C=225 A=90 B=100 C=240 Ventral A=115 B=129 C=280 A=90 B=92 C=210 largest plate A=25 B=26 C=48 A=40 B=39 C=90 anterior height A = 63 B = 65 C = 155 [A = sub.ad. ♀ = 470 gm B = sub.ad ♂ = 475 gm C = ad ♂ = 5.6 kg] Calm evening. Clear . X moon. 2.6 mi. S., 6.3 mi. W. Randsburg, Kern Co., 2900 ft. California 20 April 0630 - Awoke to a very nice day and checked traps with following results:
