Journal Hafner, M.S. 1975 2.6 mi. S, 6.3 mi. W Randsburg, Kern Co. 2900', California 8 April Rollin Leong and I left L.A. ~ 1400 and arrived this locality 1730. We used the school van. While crossing through Fremont Valley (by Koehn Lake) noticed patches of wildflowers and a small area of Desert Holly (Atriplex hymenelytra). We drove over a dirt road and camped near a small hill on the gently sloping S side of Fremont Valley. Mixed Atriplex, harees, Dalea community; fine to coarse gravel. Numerous birds were seen and heard, Horned Larks and Desert Sparrows most abundant. We set out 205 live traps as below: El Paso tut. main road to Gallock Fremont Valley Koehn dry lake dirt rd. North to Randsburg 4 lines of 50 traps Rand Range The sky was partly cloudy, cool temp-eratures, soft breeze. We measured vegetation density and gathered soil samples. Occasional sprinkles until 2000 at which time sky cleared and remained so over night.
