Journal Hafner, M.S. 1975 24 March (cont.) Dry lake Valley, 21 mi W. Penza Lincoln Co. Nev. of Newtona in rocks. Checked traps with following results: 2 Microdipodops pallidus 1 Peromyscus maniculatus 1 Dipodomys microps (Karyotyping in the lab. showed the micro- dipodops to be M. pallidus rather than M. megacephalus as we originally believed). Success = 4/200 = 2% 1300 - Drove into Caliente Nevada, had lunch and called wives. Bought bait and supplies and drove via 93 and 25 to Sand Springs. Along way noted a Prairie Falcon on pole near Dry Lake Valley. JCH collected skull of round tail lepus in Ticaboo Valley. We turned N. on a dirt road toward the dry lake 9.0 mi. SE of Queen City Summit. We set 3 lines of 200 traps each along the dirt road at various distances from the dry lake as below: Dry lake 100 traps each Side of road N Hwy 25 The southernmost set was in course.
