Vicinity of Provo, Utah
Dugway Proving Grounds (P. Adams is in charge of monitoring the plant & animal life of the Proving Grounds) J.C.H. had asked P.A. to obtain several specimens of microchipmops for him, but the trapping group had not yet returned. The weather looked ominous but we decided to trap for ourselves anyway and we headed from Provo west on Interstate 73. We took the old Pony-Express-Stage Route (dirt road).
1600 - 8 mi. NE Vernon, Utah - We collected a road-killed Red-tailed Hawk [Ad.] The bird had been eating a skell on the road just before being hit. We continued over lookout Pass to 10 mi SW Simpson Springs actual locality: 25 mi SW Dugway, Utah, Tooele Co. The sky was partly cloudy, cold, no snow on ground. Along the road we sighted several Cottontails (Sylvilagus), a pair of Adult Red-tailed Hawks and much evidence of Badger (Taxidea) work.
1800 - Made camp and set out only 200 traps (100 each side of road) along a
