Journal Hafner, M.S. 1975 Vicinity of Mojave, Kern County, California 18 March [cont] 1030 - We proceeded to Camp 1 where vegetation and soil data were collected. By this hour the sun was very warm and birds (Amphispiza bilineata) were very active. 1130 - We drove to Camp 2. On our way along the dirt road we met the old man whom I had talked to last year (he lives at the old shack near Camp 2). The man said that they had not yet received their normal amounts of rainfall for the winter. He said do make ourselves at home at his shack, but of course we just drove through. We collected vegetation & soil data then left. 1300 - We drove to Boron locality (13.5 mi East of Boron) where we collected vegetation and soil data then proceeded home. This trip was very helpful in that I gathered data from 5 of 6 localities in this area. (The locality E. of Barstow will be visited another time. We arrived b.A approximately 1800. I immediately prepared for the next trip.
