Journal Hafner, M.S. 1975 2 mi. E. Searles Station, 9 mi. NNE of Johannesburg, San Bernardino Co., California 3200 ft. "Camp I" 24 January [cont] arrived at 2100. The sky was clear and there was a light, cool breeze. [Temp. and Rel. Humid. as per chart]. At approx. 1300 a group of people in several "Vans" arrived near our camp. They talked very loudly [in the still night] and proceeded to make camp about 100 yards from us. [They had noticed us]. They talked from car to car via loudspeakers and laughed and shouted while shooting shotguns. It was an appalling ordeal, and we finally moved camp a few miles East. [We could still hear the shotguns and music being played over the loudspeakers]. The night was rather hectic. 2 mi. E. Searles Station, Rd. 9 mi. NNE of Johannesburg San Bernardino Co., California 3200 ft. "Camp I" 25 January 0700 Arose and checked traps. [On our way to the trapping locality, we reversed several signs that the "Van people" had used to mark the way to their camp. - hopefully, their friends won't find them].
