Journal Hafner, M.S. 1975 9 mi. E. of Boron, San Bernardino Co, 2500 ft. California 18 January [cont] specimen up later in the morning [MS1459] Later, we dug up 2 Dipso burrows (1♂, 1♀) [See following pages] No seed caches were found in either burrow - although surface caches were seen in the vicinity of the burrow systems. During the day we walked around the area near camp - The temp. was ~ 72° F and the day was beautiful. We noticed numerous small, fuzzy beetles (Meloidae ?) But saw no Tenebrionids. We saw numerous small lizards (Sceloporus ?) - ranging from 75-150 mm. in length overall. An adult sparrowhawk (Falco sparvianus) ♂ was observed in the later afternoon. 1430 - We set out 294 traps (100 snaps) in a small canyon .2 mi. E of Camp. 1700 - We had a really nice dinner. [A bi-plane buzzed us about 1715 !] The sun set about 1730, we talked over coffee about our future, etc. until about 2100. By this time it was 35° F. 2130 we we to bed. The low overnight was approx. 25° F. Very light breeze - sliver of a moon.
