specimen up later in the morning [MS1459]
Later, we dug up 2 Dipso burrows (1♂, 1♀)
[See following pages] No seed caches were
found in either burrow - although surface
caches were seen in the vicinity of the
burrow systems. During the day we
walked around the area near camp -
The temp. was ~ 72° F and the day
was beautiful. We noticed numerous small,
fuzzy beetles (Meloidae ?) But saw no
Tenebrionids. We saw numerous small
lizards (Sceloporus ?) - ranging from
75-150 mm. in length overall. An adult
sparrowhawk (Falco sparvianus) ♂ was observed
in the later afternoon.
1430 - We set out 294 traps (100 snaps) in
a small canyon .2 mi. E of Camp.
1700 - We had a really nice dinner. [A
bi-plane buzzed us about 1715 !] The sun
set about 1730, we talked over coffee about
our future, etc. until about 2100. By this
time it was 35° F. 2130 we we to bed.
The low overnight was approx. 25° F.
