9 November
(cont.)
Vicinity of Tehachapi, Kern Co., California, ~4000ft
Rd. 0.9 mi SE of Keene. This was a
a gently sloping field surrounded by
small oaks. The brush was low and
occasionally dense. The ground was
covered with annual grasses.
The second set of Traps was in the
same locality (0.3 mi. NE Tom Sawyer Lake)
as last night. 75 traps were set here (in
an adjacent Canyon to that one we trapped
last night.)
We decided to set ~40 traps in Sand
Canyon so that I could get a sample
for my activity period studies. After setting
traps, we drove into town, bought beer and
went back to camp to relax. The day
was quite cold (low 40's F°) and windy. The
overcast was total, but light.
