8 November (cont.)
Vicinity of Tehachapi, Kern Co. California ~4,000 ft.
NW of Tehachapi and began setting traps.
Dave had located a few likely habitats
for Dipodomys in the vicinity of Tehachapi.
We set 30 traps 0.3 mi NW of Tehachapi,
in a field adjacent to the freeway and
a housing track. There was low, dense
brush, some Chrysanthemum.
We then proceeded to a somewhat
larger field just off Hwy 202, 2 mi.
West of Tehachapi. Here we set 50 traps.
Somewhat higher, denser vegetation. We
flushed out a Sylvilagus auduboni.
We then drove to a campground 0.3
mi. W & E of Tom Sawyer lake, where we
established camp; the remaining 91 traps
were set in a brushy canyon at this
locality. (Campground was actually somewhat west
of above locality).
