Hafner, M.S. 1974 Journal 4 October (cont) 2 mi E Searles Station, 9 mi. NNE of Johannesburg, San Bernardino Co., California, 3200'gt. "Camp 1" approximately 0230 Saturday morning, by then the wind had calmed down to only a small breeze. 5 October 2 mi E. Searles Station, 9 mi. NNE of Johannesburg, San Bernardino Co., California, 3200 ft. "Camp 1" 0700 - I arose and drove to the previous night's locality to check traps. At 0730, as I was leaving, I heard several Coyote calls in the hills to the south of camp. The sun had been up (actually not yet above horizon, however quite light outside) for at least 1 hour. I stopped and talked to the old man at the steam well near "Camp 2" (see map). He is in a wheelchair and hears quite poorly - (There were also 2 younger guys having coffee with him.) The old man was very friendly and told me of some Indian petroglyphs about 1/2 mile directly north of his place (in the hills). The
