Hofner, M.S 1974 Journal 8 September 17.5 mi. S., 6.5 mi. W. Hawthorne, 7040 ft. (Mineral Co. Nevada) (Alkali Lake) (traps), one set & half the traps in the valley adjacent to the lake and one set on the ridge south of the lake basin. There was a very small moon tonight and a slight breeze from the north. We camped on the ridge overlooking the dry lake. 9 September 17.5 mi. S., 6.5 mi. W. Hawthorne, 7040 ft. (Mineral Co. Nevada) (Alkali Lake) 0800 we arose and checked traps with the following results: 8 Microdipodops megacephalus (1 dead in trap, 1 torpid) a very cold night 2 Dipodomys panamintinus 3 Peromyscus maniculatus Trapping Success: 13/65 = 20% We proceeded back through Fletchertoward Yerington to check the remainder of our traps; along the way we again
