Hefner, ms. 1974 Journal 17 September - Vicinity S. of Yerington, Lyon Co, Nevada (cont.) N. (toward Yerington) and took the entire Wly toward Pine Grove. We arrived in Pine Grove ~ 1205 and we tot lunch beneath shady pines trees and just relaxed in the coolness. We later explored one of the many mines in this area - (a historical marker said that one mine here made $5 million between 1860-8 and another made $3 million - mostly gold, some silver). The shaft we went into contained no boats, but was amazing anyway; the opening was a very precise archway about 1.5 meters high (below head height), the floor was very level and there were only a few minor cave-in's on the sides of the shaft. We followed it in approx 140-150 meters where it branched, cave-in's further on made us decide to turn back. 1500 - we walked around the area where the miners had apparently camped - we found many parts of old bottles and other keepsakes. 1600 - We Set 305 live traps in a very sandy, (sparsely brush)ed area south of Yerington. There was much evidence of rodent activity, and I noted an old Badger burrow.
