16 mi. W. Hawthorne, 5600', Lyon's Co.,
Nevada
cross the East Walker River at a
point near the "Flying M Ranch" but
we were rudely kicked off the
property by the woman owner of
the ranch. We drove further north
along the dirt road on the west
side of the river (the road leads
to Yerington, Nevada), and turned
E/2N on "Rafter 7" Road which lead
across the river. We checked-out
localities and then re-crossed the
river, immediately turning North on a
dirt road paralleling the bank of the
river. We noted several very large
nests in large trees along the river,
one nest having a Red-tailed Hawk
perched nearby. We walked to the
locality where John had lost his
suitcase during our trip in June, but
we could not find it.
-150's- We ate lunch and waded in the
river which was too cold to really
swim in. We noted evidence of where
a (Racoon?) had eaten a crayfish on
a small sandbar near the riverbank.
