16 mi. W. Hawthorne, 5600 ft., Lyon Co.,
Nevada
~ 0300 (Coyote calls were heard during the night)
0700 - We checked the traps with the
following results:
# 7 Dipodomys meriamii hf = 39.5 (large?)
2 Dipodomys microps hf = 43 hf = 45
1 Neotoma lepida
1 Onychomys leucogaster (Sub.ad.)
1 Perognathus formosus
Trapping Success = 12/227 รท 5%
This locality had no Microdipodops
and the mountains to the SW may
very well mark the northernmost extension
of M. megacephalus' range (They were caught
near Fletcher, Nevada).
We walked around for a few hours
and noted little animal life and even
less evidence of diggings. John found
an arrowhead near a spring about
1 mile West of camp.
1130 - We drove north across Walker
river noting many Sparrow Hawks (Falco
sparverius) and Magpies on trees and
