19 April 1.5 mi. N. Johannesburg in "Copper-Colored"
(Hint) Hills 1 mi E. of Trona Rd. San Bernardino Co. 3200'
I moved to a lookout on the bank
above the nest approx. 10 meters from the
nest... clear view. 1350 - ? left nest. 1359-
? returned to a perch near nest (2 meters)
a few seconds later she entered the nest,
this time facing in my direction - obviously
aware of my presence. - ? preeened breast
feathers - turned 90° away from me.
1405 - ? leaves nest. 1408 returns to perch,
then enters nest, facing me again. 1425-
? leaves nest. ? always flew into and out of
nest (ie, never perched on nest rim or on
any perch in same bush as nest.) 1430 end
observations.
1700 - I set 100 snap and 50 live traps
on either side of the road that
parallels Trona Rd. approx. 1/4 mi. from
the "water holes".
1800 - Dacey, Barron, and I met Paul
Rubin at Campsite #1 then proceeded
back to the camp in the "Copper-
colored hills". The wind was somewhat
calmer than previous nights. High
and low temperatures were much the
same.
