Hefner, ms. 1974 Journal 25 Jan - Big Tujunga Canyon, approx. 10 mi NE of Sunland, L.A. county Calif. Various locals; 1,000-2,500'. 2:00 PM - The dog, "Barron", and I set 73 live traps in the following locals: ○ 20 traps on alluvium across river approx. 2 mi. from intersection of Big T. Canyon Rd. and Mt. Gleason Blvd; ○ 10 live traps on low, brush hillside to left of rd. (immediately past small bridge) approx. 3 mi. from Mt. Gleason Blvd; and ○ 43 traps in chaparral adjacent to pine trees near marker "7-43". All areas were low, dense, chaparral. 26 Jan - Big Tujunga Canyon, approx. 10 mi. NE of Sunland L.A. county Calif. Various locals; 1,000'-2,500' 10:00 AM. Darcy, "Barron", and I checked traps; last night was cold, but still. Results: Set ○ 1 - Perognathus californicus dispar Set ○ 2 - Dipodomys a. agilis | Peromyscus man- Set ○ 3 - Neotoma fuscipes macrotis iculatus Success: 43/73 = 4% 5% One cottontail (Sylvilagus) was sighted in low brush at set ○ - many rabbit droppings covered ground.
