Bulloni 1949 Empidonax [illegible] (7) difficilis -1- Aug 31 Willow Creek, 400 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. - 1 of about 10 birds collected. The group were scattered along a Blackberry-Willow growth extending for several hundred feet along a small water-filled ditch on the edge of a hot dry, grassy field. Though much of their foraging was done in the open, they always landed under an overhead cover of some sort, seldom more than three or four feet above the ground. This bird's bill is stained black, enough to suggest that it must be feeding on blackberries to some extent. Summary Northwest Coast Transect, Calif. - Birds of this genus were seen commonly at all camps except Red Mtn., and birds of this species rated as common to abundant at Big Lagoon and Willow Creek. As indicated above, in the river bottom area at Willow Creek these flycatchers were very common.
