Gullion 1949 Dendrocopos pubescens -1- Aug 27 3 1/2 mi. N Willow Creek, 2000 feet, Humboldt Co., Calif.- The ♀ of a pair feeding in a group of Black Oaks on the SW slope of Watersman Ridge was collected. The male when fired upon flew down slope into the Oak forest below rather than into the nearly dense Douglas Fir forest.
