Sullivan 1949 Falco sparverius -1- Aug 19 Childs Hill Prairie, 2200 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.- 10 individuals seen nesting on telephone poles or flying in the vicinity of one small area just out of the Douglas Fir forest near. Aug 25 Coyote Peak, 3000 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. - I tried to collect a pale g breasted bird from atop a dead snag on the point N of Coyote Peak. It flew just as I was set to take it so I didn't get it. Summary Northwest Coast Transect, Calif - Sparrow Hawks were scarce at Big Lagoon, only 1 specimen being seen, but were fairly common at on the Bald Hills in the French Camp area. At Willow Creek they were seen about the cleared pasture and crop-field areas. None were recorded at Red Mtn. Clear grasslands seemed to be the necessary habitat to insure their occurrence and this was very limited at both Big Lagoon and the Red Mtn areas. At The great abundance of green hoppers in the Bald Hills area made that area an especially favorable habitat.
