Aquila chrysaetos -1-
Aug 25 Coyote Peak, 3000 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. -
1 bird in fine immature plumage with
white under the wings and a black-tipped tail seen soaring out from the top of the
hill just N of Coyote Peak. It soared out
over the bald, and then turned south,
moving directly down the crest-line of
the Bald Hills ridge until it was
finally lost to sight.
Summary Northwest Coast Transit Calif - Only one bird of
this species was seen on this trip. Apparently
this species is not very common in this
area. I would expect them to occur fairly
frequently in the "Bald Hills" area which
is quite extensive in the French Camp area
but perhaps persecution by ranchers has
greatly reduced the population.
