Gullion 1949 Sceloporus occidentalis -3- Sept 9 Red Mtn. 5300 ft., 14 mi S Hayfork, Trinity Co., Calif. I collected at 8:45 a.m. on an east facing slope. It was foraging on bare rocky ground at the edge of a Brewer Oak. It ran then the oak to the shelter of a brown-berry Manginita (Arctostaphylos). It was collected as it ran out from under the shelter of the Manginita. It had been in the sun where the temperature read 75 F. This location has probably been exposed to the sun since its rising over the eastern horizon. - Later I shot at but failed to collect a large individual which was carrying a large Mole Cricket to its hole. It had been foraging in Jeffrey Pine needle litter at 11 a.m.
