Sept 3 3 mi. N. Willow Creek, 700 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
- night on Branman Mountain NW of Willow
Creek. On the way up the Three Creek Road,
at the 2700 foot elevation, a coyote was
seen in the road. A little ways
below that a bunch of about 20 Band-
tailed Pigeons flushed out of the brush.
Also saw what may have been a Spotted
Owl at that same place. Found it
was 8.7 miles by road from Willow Creek
to the top of Branman Mtn. Saw two big
forest fires, one towards the Hoopa Reservation
and one SE of Salyers about 2 ridges.
Set out 10 mouse traps and one rat on the
north side of the 3957 foot summit.
Dropped back down to the first saddle
W of the summit and set two steel traps,
a rat and a Schuyler trap in this
area. Heard a pair of Wren-Tits calling
back and forth on the SE slope of the summit
humps. Moved on to the 2nd saddle W of
the summit and set up camp, at 3700 ft.
Put out 1 mouse rat trap, 2 Schuybers and
-20 snap traps. Collected 1 of the squeaky
voiced Chipmunks (E. sonomae). During the evening
I worked down the road W of camp, called
in a Pinyon Owl but was not able to
get it. Was bothered by Flying Squirrels.
also saw an Olive-sided Flycatcher.
