Aug 15 Big Lagoon Humboldt Co., Calif.
collected. - Going back away - I saw
2 Reddy Ducks on the open water just S
of the juncture of Cross Channel with the
old mouth - an Oared Grebe with
mystical "ears" in the Scipus just
W of the Buddies' location - and an
adult Piled-billed Grebe further out
in the Old Mouth but near the Wedge.
About 50-75 Pintails and nearly the
same number of Mallards were
milling around over head most of the
day. The shot total was in company
with another blue winged bird and
a Green-winged Teal when collected.
After taking the Grebe I followed a
well defined and much used deer
trail back to the channel of Maple
Creek - crossed the creek and returned to
camp.
Aug 16 same locality - Spent the entire day skinning
yesterday catch. It was clear from dawn
until now - 5:57pm - at least.
Aug 17 same locality - Left camp early this morning
to work the marsh area at the S end
of the Lagoon. Rough-winged Swallows
and Barn Swallows were feeding over
the log pond and about 15-20 Brewer
