Woke up about 8:50AM and got off about
9:40PM. Day began oppressively hot - perhaps the
hottest and most humid we've had yet.
Headed south of Cd. Valles on Mex. Hwy. 85 the
plan being to go as far south as possible on this
road in one day while checking the likely
looking Anelytropis habitats on the way. As it
was not checked several areas, only one of
which had herbs and we ended up in the
highlands of Hidalgo at a good trout
area to look for Salamanders. The only
good shooting we had along the road was
as follows:
Grounds of the Hotel Covadonga a few
miles south of Covad Valles on Mex. Hwy 85
This is a large resort hotel we've removed
from the San Antonio Spring of Cd. Valles. It has
large extensive grounds including gardens,
a large, now dry swimming pool, and a golf
course. There is a stream running through
the grounds on the east side and the gardens
water a good deal. It was all the water
and the lush vegetation that made the
place an oasis in this otherwise dry area
and that made it so attractive to us. We
worked the grounds between 10:10-11:25 AM
and found only the following:
Physophya venulosa 2 found are
