Continued on into Ciudad Mante and then south to Hwy 80 which we took west into the Sierra Madre to the crest of the mountains. The vegetation is dense tropical deciduous forest with no place to pull off & work hence we turned around at the crest & returned to Hwy 85 South. Took this to Ciudad Valles where we gassed up and started into the Sierra again on Mon. Hwy 70. Turned off on the road north to Rascon & stopped to work a cleared, [now] second growth area on the south slope of a ridge. Saw nothing but one B. Cnemidophorus . The people along the road seemed unfriendly and since our plan was to take this road as part of a ground circle through Rio Verde and Jalpan over Xilitla to Cd. Valles , we decided to return to Cd. Valles for the night and begin again in the morning. Stayed at the Hotel Valles trailer park for 26 pesos. Had a good hot shower & dinner and then Sam and Jim went out to collect the geckos on the hotel walls. These were Cehyra mutilata and they got a total of 9. Jim also got one Soricisca beaudini . The locality for these animals is Hotel Valles, Ciudad Valles, San Luis Potosi Had a brief visit from some fairly drunk but polite youngs who had hitchhiked down from San
