General observations: The Sierra here is largely Cretaceous limestone with many fossil white brates embedded in the rocks. There is no stady or running surface water anywhere nearby and the people of Gomez Farías use spring water. There is no clear stratification of the vegetation with the Sierra, as there may be in western North America. 2 May Got up around 7:30 AM to find the sky overcast with the smoke from the burning corn cane fields. This smoke was to leave us for the rest of the day as we went down the east side of the Sierra to the coastal plain. I worked around the campsite from 8:30 - 9:00 AM and saw several Sceloporus - presumably the same species as yesterday - two got none. Saw no other lizards. Went further south into Ciudad Mante for gas + ice and then back to the Ocampo road which runs west off Mex. Hwy 85. Drove to the town to check out the river which is nearly non-existent there & then back out
