HW Grinnell - 1915 Yosemite, Calif 38 Oct. 22 Observed today the first meadowlark I have seen during six months residence in the valley. A single individual was flying about the meadow land of Corinthel Hotel. The bird was apparently catching grasshoppers, which are very abundant in the short meadow grass. Nov. 7 Band-tailed Pigeons have been notably scarce since about Oct. 15, but today I noticed three flying overhead, the first I have seen for a week. Nov. 14 Left cottage 60 at 10:am. and walked down along the road on this side of the river to El Cajiton bridge; then up the Big Oak Flat road about 2 miles to B.M. 4943 ft. elevation, reaching there at 2:p.m. The sky was overcast with cirrus clouds through which the sun occasionally broke.
