H.W. Grinnell -19/5 31. Yosemite, Calif. close beside a slough. The nest was neatly made of grass and weed stems and was lined with horsehair. There were three small young. The only parent seen was very much concerned but rather shy, and would not approach the nest closely while I remained at hand, keeping instead hidden among the leaves or clinging to weed stems in the slough, constantly uttering notes of anxiety. August 90 At six o'clock this evening I saw a Myotis californicus fly across a pool of water near the foot of Yosemite falls. It circled about several times, flying down to the surface of the water as tho drinking. Its thirst apparently satisfied, the bat flew over to the stream side and retired to a crevice between the boulders where I shortly found it. Myotis no. 134286x42 x7x10
