Grun 1927 3. San Miguel Island Southern Calif. Sept. 18, 1927 We left Santa Barbara in the early 4m. The boat was a small fishing boat piloted by a Chas. Hanam. We saw num- erous Shearwaters and Petrels all the way across. We shot several Shearwaters. When we were about two thirds of the way across it was quite windy causing the water to be very choppy. We arrived at 1:30 p.m. The coke is very windy. We had time to unload and take one sled load up to the Ranch House. The road is very steep and narrow. The sled is drawn by a single horse and con- sequently only 150 lbs. may be taken at a time. We had time to take only one load up to the house as it is a mile and a half from the
